    Battle

Swinging a fist, anticipating a strike, down for the count.

    Death is a welcome reprise.

    But victory will be claimed.

    Dogged pt.2

Jeremy Clarkson ran away the day after I posted Dogged because the SPCA came and idk what they did and he ran away. Yeah.

THEN. Yesterday a toy poodle followed my maid while she was walking Strider. She followed her all the way home.

    Good Lord.

Today she followed my maid again, and this time waited outside my door, WHY?!

So my maid called my mom long story short the dog is in my room now because Strider is insanely jealous that my mom took her in and she is whining.

I named her Kylie. She looks like Kylie Minogue in the 80s.

Idk what we are going to do with her but I think she has an owner somewhere out there who misses her dearly so we are going to try to find them. But if we can’t, then I think Gwen wants her.

Banshee if you are reading this, I called you! Why didn’t you answer?

    Dogged

There’s a stray dog inhabiting the stairwell of my block. He randomly showed up, looking pitiful and unloved. I think some sick sod abandoned him. Well I hope his children abandon him then.

That aside, gave him water and Strider’s treats. The water he gulped down thunderously (he had 3 helpings of it) but Strider’s treats were too hard for him. He must be really old and gummy. So I gave him bread. Bread sorta worked. He gummed them up good.

While getting water I thought I’d name him Jeremy Clarkson. They’re both old and do things fast (Jeremy Clarkson the human races fast cars while Jeremy Clarkson the dog drinks like a whale).

The only difference is Jeremy Clarkson the human propably lives in a villa somewhere in Europe and occassionally in a vacation home on some really awesome island while Jeremy Clarkson the dog has taken up residence under a pipe along the stairs.

Wonder if the Action for Singapore Dogs will do something? Will call them tomorrow. I think Jeremy Clarkson is too old to find a new home, but maybe he can be comfortable in a shelter. By the looks of things Heaven isn’t that far off either.

    Just checked the ASD website:

Can you help pick up a stray that I saw recently?
We are a small group of volunteers and do not have the resources to answer to every call. As we rely on a network of foster homes, once they are full, we cannot take in anymore unless some of the dogs are adopted. Our mode of operation is a collaborative one, where the rescuer has to help us hold the dog temporarily while we look for a foster home, then we can start the rehomning process.

I can’t take Jeremy Clarkson in. I really want to though. He looks so sad. Looking at him makes me sad too. It was heartbreaking when he tried to follow me home.

Just checked the SPCA website. Nothing much there. But I did download the appeals PDF. Half of me wishes I didn’t. Whoever’s been dismembering/torturing/murdering these cats needs serious medical help (but only after the mob of cat lovers are through with him).

There should be a link somewhere on this page. Take a ganter. It’s some seriously fucked up shit.

Praying for Jeremy Clarkson (the dog, the human doesn’t need much help).

    Address Switch

Helped Tina move from her dorm in Carlisle Road to her much better conditioned apartment in Amber Road yesterday.

Her stuff was enough to fill up the boot and the back of the car. Among other things, there was a waste basket (complete with plastic bag lining), a tin of cadbury caramel chocolates, two a2 bags full of unused Art Friend materials and a mounted poster of Wang Lee Hom (a relic from her ex roomie).

Sharing a room with three girls is scary. I seriously admire her resolve to live there for a year. I know for a fact that Tina is a clean and hygienic person but her roomies are from hell.

I won’t go into details. You don’t want to know the details.

    Fighting Spiders

Well, finally Mediacorp has finally produced an English drama that I actually enjoyed.

Fighting spiders features a moderately interesting plot, excellent cinematography and a plethora of characters that were actually belieavable.

I always fancied shows about the old times in Singapore, and this seemed like a fantastic representation of said era. The pace was slower, the people more down to earth, and though simple, the simple pleasures a life in that time offered seem far more appealing than today’s influx of cheap thrills.

The one thing that made me really love Fighting Spiders (other than Ezann Lee la) was the cinematography. Plenty of intricate and painstakingly set up shots that told the story far more than what I have come to expect of Mediacorp.

The darker tones and slightly sepiaed color made it even more realistic and great to watch, I am glad they didn’t go down Channel 8’s beaten track, where the coloring editing was absymal. I have always hated the editing in Ch8 dramas. Kind of like Days of our Lives. Sure, they have faithful color representation, but what’s wrong with a little tweaking of tone? So many scenes in Ch8 dramas where the mood is supposedly sombre were ruined by the excessive brightness of the set.

I have always despised flashbacks. FS did feature a few, but they were pretty well done. At least some of them were. A flashback only makes sense when people need to be reminded of what happened, and some shows seriously overdo it. FS’s flashbacks (such as the one where Tony was recalling all the insults hurled at him) gave insight to character’s decisions, which I felt was a decent a good enough reason to add it in.

Rebecca Lim (Susie) gave a fantatic performance. She portrayed the character superbly, heightening the viewers’ senstitivity to the character’s every emotion and nuance. You could almost feel her pain.

In contrast, I hate to admit, but Ezann was borderline terrible. I adored her in Be With Me (Eric Khoo 2005) but in FS she was just plain painful to watch at times. Here she gets a speaking role, and that really ruined it for me. Her tone was mostly the same, her pronounciation one would not expect from an actress, and her lines mostly said in a hurry (what’s the rush?). And her hair! I know it was an era of big hair, but THE HAIR. God, it looks like a furry monster munching on her scalp.

In conclusion I felt that it’s definitely better than the regular Mediacorp stock, and I’m looking forward to Season 2.
